Moncove Lake Water Project UpdatePosted 02/08/24
The Moncove Water Project Planning Team recently met to discuss steps necessary to move the project forward. Those present included local representatives from Monroe County in addition to Region 1 Planning and Development Council and the project engineer with E.L. Robinson Engineering.
As a result of the meeting, E.L. Robinson Engineering plans on beginning a door-to-door residential survey the week of February 19th. The survey will measure the interest from residents in having and using the public water system. Surveys also include questions concerning residential household income to qualify the project for as much grant funding as may be available. The information collected will be used in designing a project to meet users’ needs. All information collected will be held in strict confidence and used only for matters related to project development and funding.
Areas to be surveyed in this phase include residences along McCullough Farm Road and proceeding along Route 8 (Moncove Lake Road). These areas currently have water service available from the Gap Mills PSD. However, depending on the final project design, the main water lines serving these areas may have to be upgraded and/or replaced to have the water flow necessary to extend water service beyond those currently receiving water service.
The Survey will proceed along Moncove Lake Road from the end of the Gap Mills PSD’s existing water line to include residents directly along the main road as well as those living on the side roads off Route 8 along the way. This phase of survey work will end at Moncove Lake.
At least two additional phases planned in the future would propose extending the water service further along Route 8, Moncove Lake Road, and side roads.
Last year the Monroe County Commission requested funding for the project through the Congressionally Designated Spending Process. That request is still pending.
